Award-winning director Andrea Meyerson (the “Laughing Matters” series) returns with another fun-filled and important documentary.
Kate Clinton - out, proud and hilarious for twenty-five years - recently concluded her silver anniversary celebration tour, her funniest ever. Meyerson again weaves the hilarity onstage with sincerity offstage, as Clinton reflects on her career as an out lesbian comic.
Her biting satire includes calling herself “the last lesbian comic standing,” but where Kate really stands is at the forefront of the lesbian movement, where her sharp, politically charged humor has made her a celebrated voice of enlightenment and empowerment.
This show runs the gamut, from aging to sex to politics, and in this documentary you get to see her banter with her seldom-seen partner of 18 years, Urvashi Vaid. Cameos by Melissa Etheridge, Lily Tomlin and Billie Jean King round out the film, packed with laughs throughout and illustrating firsthand the impact Kate Clinton has had on so many of us over the past quarter century.
