East Side Story

  • $10.00
  • Director: Carlos Portugal
  • 2006, USA, 88 minutes

Carlos Portugal brings the gay Latino experience to life in this award-winning comedic twist, just his first feature film!

This adventure follows the trials and tribulations of Diego, a Chicano living in East LA.  Things aren’t working out that well for Diego…he spent years in culinary school but is stuck serving dinner specials in the family restaurant.  His old neighborhood is being invaded by rich Caucasians, and living with his grandmother makes it hard to play kinky bad border cop/illegal alien games with his boyfriend Pablo.

Of course, to call him his boyfriend, Pablo would have to admit that they’re dating!  Lately he seems to prefer shtupping Diego’s horny aunt in an effort to scare himself straight.

At the same time, white gay men like Jonathan and Wesley are moving in, and Diego’s plans to move away to an upscale neighborhood soon get turned around by his sparks for Wesley, who actually returns his attentions.

The attraction between Diego and Wesley is immediate and electric, forcing both men to re-examine their state of affairs in this entertaining comedy. Who will stay? Who will go? Who will fall in love? And who needs telenovelas...when you have EAST SIDE STORY, a courageous queer comedy about coming out and coming home.

Four-time audience award winner.  Winner, Best Director, Reel Affirmations (Washington, DC GLFF).
